After redoing the mantle a couple of times, I am happy with the results...I wanted it to coordinate this den with all the candy cane things in the kitchen and dining area...... since they are all connected....
This is the before picture of the mantle after the Thanksgiving autumn items have been taken down....
It sure looks a little plain before, wouldn't you agree...
The wonderful Mr. S. drilled a hole in the bookcase side that goes behind the t.v. and ran an extention cord behind those books so I could light up the garland on the mantle....If you are getting a new fire place or mantle or having one built, never never forget to put outlets somewhere near, for for lamps, Christmas lights even those electrical picture frames. The fact that the garland has tiny little lights makes a huge difference...
You will notice some of the pictures have red dishes in the cabinet and some pictures do not, it just depends on what point I have tweaked it or not, oh well....
The Plate is a Hallmark Plate and I love the wonderful red color....
Bows are fun to make and make such an impact, I must confess, they are hard on your hands so I was happy to make only a few this year...
For some reason it was important for me to have the garland touch the floor, I actually wanted it to puddle on the floor, maybe next year....The corners of the garland is held to the mantle top on each end with those command sticky things that won't hurt the paint, they work great and I will use them again...
Those cute little doggies.....and their peppermint collars...
I know your probably wondering why I rarely do candle, dim light photos. Well I just don't do that well. I do have dimmers on all the lights, however it always looks like someone shut off the electricity.....I will however work on it.....
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you had an enjoyable visit....if you would like to leave a comment just click on the word comment and let me know what you think, I read them all and love to hear from you... When the mantle is lighted and the candles on each side are also lighted, wow it sure is Christmas time.....almost time for hot chocolate this year by the fire, I think that will be next...

My fireplace is very deep because it is double sided, so I can have the garland swag this way, and yes we use the fireplace daily.... so be careful if your fireplace is shallow....

This looks great, Phyllis! I love the candy cane theme you carried through here. Love the fullness and length to it. I'm with you ~ I've learned my lesson about making sure there is an outlet near the fireplace. I'd love to do a lighted garland and I still could with those battery operated lights, but I also think it's a great idea for if you want lamps on your mantle. Nice job on the bows, too!
ReplyDeleteI could get lost in every detail in your house. Just breathtaking! The mantel is definitely something from a magazine. I have to ask.... you have that long garland touching the floor AND a cat? I'm impressed! :)
ReplyDeleteEverything is just beautiful.

The garland is absolutely beautiful. Really, really lovely. I've always staplegunned my garland to the mantle and spoilt the paintwork. I don't think we have the sticky stuff you mentioned here in the UK. xx

ReplyDeleteOh Phyyllis,
ReplyDeleteThe mantel looks so amazing. I just love it. I love the red/white candy cane theme, it just brought the room to life. I love it. You do a beautiful job of making those bows. I have to buy mine, I am not a bow maker, I can barely tie my shoes and make them look civil.
I too, love that candy red Hallmark plate. Is it knew or one you have had for awhile? I collect red dishes for my china cabinet so I too look for red.
Thanks for sharing sweetie, and thanks for stopping by as always, I love to see you come, and so love having you visit.

Hi Phyllis, these shots belong in a magazine. I love how you've carried your theme through out. My husband is one who swears Christmas is meant to be red and white and for the most part I agree. However, in our dining room I've done a pheasant theme with Santas thrown in. lol I'm glad you stopped by for a visit. Stop by any 'ole time.. hugs ~lynne~
ReplyDeleteYour mantle is so festive and looks great with your cupboard with the red and white dishes and displays. The way you used the red ribbon really makes the peppermint ribbon stand out. Beautiful fireplace.

Okay first of all I hope I'm not violating a blogging faux pas by writing what I already know will be a long comment. Second of all thank you SO MUCH for stopping by my blog in its infancy to make such a sweet comment. You don't know how much the first comments mean. I've been watching and watching and my husband kept asking did anyone comment and I was like a kid who didn't get a Christmas present each time I had to tell him "no." So now I have two comments and even better "followers." It's so exciting. And, another unanticipated benefit is it drove me to your site which is GORGEOUS - - both your blog and your home. It is simply stunning. As I'm already late for work because I've been captivated and can't walk away, I didn't get to see everything, but will be back. Again, thank you for stopping by and I hope, like you, I can be some form of positive inspiration. I haven't filled out my profile yet but will soon and will add that I have three children (twin girls who are 10 and a 12-year old son) so most of my time (and money) is (happily) tied up there. That's just a disclaimer that my home is a work in progress but I do have some ideas about future posts that I hope people will enjoy. In any event, I feel like I have really grown and found discovered another extremely worthwhile and fulfillingn dimension in this life by entering the blogging world and I enjoy the connection to otherwise total strangers. Again, many thanks.
ReplyDeleteI love your mantle and your garland! It's so festive and I love how it ties into the kitchen look! Your ribbon looks marvelous! I do love it going to the floor too! I saw that look at the White House on HGTV! I want to try that myself!
ReplyDeleteLove all the clean, crisp, white! It really makes the red pop!
ReplyDeleteHi Again! I love yoour bows! Do you use a bo making machine to keep them even? Your mantle is beautiful. TTFN xo Sunny109

I seldom comment, but I browsed a lot of remarks on
